Dish Description

Do you or anyone in your family suffer from acid reflux or heartburn? Yes, we all do, sometimes and many times. When we eat oily, spicy foods or are dehydrated we may get acid reflux or heartburn. Don’t rush to that bottle of tums yet. There are some simple remedies you can use such as chewing a piece of gum or making sure you drink lots of water. Also, if you chew your food and make sure it mixes well with the saliva, your food will digest better and you may avoid that heartburn. Many times it is very simple than we think.

However, if it is chronic, coming again and again, then you need to try something else. I have used a home remedy to battle reflux for several years with my family. A family member had chronic acid reflux and heartburn after meals. We tried several over the counter medicines like Tums and Pepcid AC but they did not work. Then the doctor prescribed a strong dose of Prevacid, to be taken for life.  This medicine gave temporary relief but it did not help the root cause. The member still suffered from acid reflux and heartburn.

I started working on home remedies. I used a mixture of cumin seeds, fennel seeds, turmeric, and a little sea salt. It worked! Within 3 months of using this mixture after every meal, heartburn and acid reflux went away completely. It’s been 7 years since then and we use this mixture not only for acid reflux and heartburn, but with any kind of stomach aches, gas, and indigestion.

We keep it handy, in the car, kitchen, study, and bedroom. You don’t know when you will need it.

Here is the simple recipe to make the mixture.

Ingredients
  • 1. 1 cup Cumin seeds
  • 2. Cup Fennel seeds
  • 3. ¼ cup Turmeric Powder
  • 4. Sea Salt to taste
  • 5. 2 Tbsp water to sprinkle on the mixture
Ingredients
  • Step 1: Preheat oven at 350°c.
  • Step 2: Mix all the ingredients together in an oven-safe tray.
  • Step 3: Roast it in the oven at 350°c for 30 minutes stirring occasionally until the mixture is dry and crunchy. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes and fill bottles as needed.

(NOTE: You can also roast it in the microwave on high at 5-minute intervals until dry and crunchy. You may be tempted to add more ingredients to it, but trust me no matter how good those ingredients are, they don’t help. Just work with these 5 ingredients)
